Martyn Ball

Martyn Ball is a Managing Director and Head of Investment Grade and Capital Securities of Weeden’s Fixed Income Division. Martyn joins Weeden from Goldman Sachs where he worked in a variety of positions from 1998 to 2009. Martyn was responsible for sales and trading of Preferred Stock as well as marketing Hybrid Capital throughout the firm. During this time, the firm went from 17th to 2nd on the Dealogic New Issue League Tables. From 2001 to 2004, Martyn was a Vice President responsible for selling credit-related products to all of the firm’s insurance company and money manager clients within the Industry Sales Group.

Before joining Goldman Sachs in 1998, Martyn was a Vice President at Morgan Stanley where he was responsible for building out their Fixed Income Middle Markets platform. During his tenure, the group grew from 3 to 18 sales professionals and became a model for the Equities Division, which soon initiated a similar business plan. From 1993 to 1995, Martyn was an Associate responsible for trading bank and utility preferred stock, in addition to distributing new issues and marketing the product to the firm’s High Net Worth sales force. Martyn joined Morgan Stanley in 1991 as an Analyst in their Fixed Income/Capital Markets Analyst program, rotating through Short & Medium Term Finance, Corporate Bond and Preferred Stock trading desks.

Martyn holds a B.A. in English from St. Lawrence University, where he was a Vilas Scholar and member of the Men’s Division 1 Ice Hockey team. In addition, he was a Trustee of the University from 1998-2002, where he served on the Budget, Finance, and Investment committees. Martyn and his wife Ellen reside in New York City, with their two sons and one daughter.
