Thomas Orr

Thomas Orr was named Managing Director of Research at Weeden & Co. in 2010, after having served the firm as Research Director since 2007. Before moving over to manage the research department, Mr. Orr was the firm’s head energy trader, working in conjunction with Weeden’s team of energy analysts. For the last 10 years he has penned a daily note from the trading desk, Morning Energy Update and Observations, a news and opinion piece focused on short-term trends, trading ideas and observations within the energy sector, as well as the broad market.

Before rejoining Weeden & Co. in 1999, Tom was employed for 3 years as a principal with Whittington Management, a technology sector focused hedge fund. Prior to that, from 1994 to 1996, he was a principal and head of risk management at Eagle Capital Management, an Institutional equity manager serving University Trust, Pension, and Endowment Funds. From 1982 to 1994, Tom worked at Weeden & Co., first as an Institutional sales trader and then as a position trader focused mostly on financial stocks.

Mr. Orr holds a BA in English Literature and Art History from Duke University. He resides in Weston, CT, with his wife, Judy, and their 3 children, Maya, Jack, and Anderson.
